Ultrafiltration with submerged spirally wrapped membranes
Spirally wrapped membranes are commonly used in reverse osmosis and have replaced the hollow fiber membranes.
The process designed by DRACE medioambiente and put into use in a plant belonging to the water company Canal de Isabel II is a novelty in the European market. It provides all the advantages of spirally wrapped membranes applied to ultrafiltration, this being possible thanks to the submergible design.
We are the first company in Europe to used submerged spirally wrapped membranes for ultrafiltration in a tertiary treatment at an urban wastewater treatment plant. We have also applied this process in the tertiary treatment designed so that the treated wastewater can be recycled from various other such plants located on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands (in Gran Tarajal, Puerto Rosario and Corralejo) and as a preliminary treatment at the plant before desalination by electro dialysis.
