LARGEST M.B.R. IN SPAIN INSTALLED AT THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OF SABADELL-RIU SEC

DRACE medioambiente has contracted the Sabadell-Riu Sec wastewater treatment plant enlargement project that includes the largest M.B.R. system installed in Spain to date.

Considering the pollution loads that have been reaching the existing installation, plus those that will result from the planned housing developments Can Lloch and S. Quince del Valles, plus the fact that there is no additional land available to expand the plant, it was necessary to consider the possibility of complementing the plant’s biological treatment with a submerged membrane biological treatment (M.B.R.). This would serve two purposes, guarantee the quality of the treated water from the tertiary treatment and minimize the production of sludge in the system.

The contract contemplates an increase in the water treatment capacity to 35,000 m3 per day while improving the characteristics of the treated water by reducing its nutrient content.

The modification of the biological process, implies the addition of a microfiltration membrane system together with the development of the necessary electromechanical equipment and installations to meet the new parameters of operation.
