ALMOGUERA-ALGODOR DRINKING WATER TREATMENT PLANT

This purification plant is the largest drinking water treatment facility in Spain today. In it ultrafiltration with membranes and reverse osmosis techniques are used to produce water apt for human consumption according to current legal requirements.

The Almoguera-Algodor plant has a capacity of 2,400 l/sec. of water taken from the Tajo River. Due to the raw water’s high sulphate content, the plant has been designed including reverse osmosis for the treated water that guarantees less than 250 mg/l of sulphate (the limit permitted by law).

The treatment line consists of a screening, preozonization, chemical physical treatment with lamellar sedimentation, ultrafiltration with membranes and reverse osmosis of the part of the flow that has passed through ultrafiltration. The plant has two raw and treated water tanks with a capacity of more than 20,000 m3 and a pumping station to push the treated water to the supply mains. The facility also has a complete line to treat the sludge produced in the water purification process.
